Owned by 1996 IndyCar Champion Jimmy Vasser and Dallas businessman James “Sulli” Sullivan, Vasser and Sullivan were allied and partners from 2011-2016 as KVSH Racing in the IndyCar Series, winning the 2013 Indianapolis 500. In 2017, Vasser and Sullivan established Vasser Sullivan Racing to continue in the IndyCar series. In 2018, they formed a partnership with Dale Coyne, establishing Dale Coyne with Vasser Sullivan to compete full time in the IndyCar Series Championship. In its first year, the team earned multiple podiums including winning the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, and finished seventh in the 2018 championship standings. In 2019, the team scored two top-five finishes, a season high third at Barber and a fifth at COTA, and nine top-10 showings. In 2020 the team finished 4th in the
Indianapolis 500.
In 2019 Vasser and Sullivan forged a new partnership with Lexus to compete in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship with two Lexus RC F GT3 entries. In 2022, the team entered the GTD Pro Class, fielding one entry in GTD and another in Pro. Vasser Sullivan Racing and Lexus have won 10 races, had 29 podium performances and earned 14 poles, earning a podium percentage of over 61%. The Vasser Sullivan Lexus program has won an IMSA GTD Sprint Cup Championship, finished second in the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona, second in 2020 and a 3rd in 2021, and a class win in 2022 at Petit LeMans from Road Atlanta.
